INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Prof. Dr. Arel Gereli’s training journey in upper extremity surgery extended to major centers in Germany, the United States, South Korea, and Japan, in addition to Turkey.

These milestones recount not only the training received in various countries but also the evolution of a specialization—initially focused on hand surgery—into a comprehensive upper-extremity practice encompassing the wrist, elbow, and advanced shoulder surgery over time.
PROF. DR. AREL GERELİ

A Journey from Hand to Shoulder.

Prof. Dr. Arel Gereli’s professional journey began at Ege University Faculty of Medicine. After completing his residency training in Orthopedics and Traumatology at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital, he focused on hand and upper extremity surgery starting in 2006.

This focus, which began with hand surgery, expanded over time to encompass wrist arthroscopy, elbow surgery, and advanced shoulder surgery. Today, it extends to a comprehensive upper-extremity surgery practice—shaped by over 10,000 procedures—that treats the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder as parts of a single anatomical chain.

2007

Austrian Society for Surgery of the Hand Microsurgery Certificate

He successfully completed the Microsurgery Course organized by the Austrian Society for Surgery of the Hand in Linz.

2008

BAD NEUSTADT, GERMANY

He received training in hand, wrist, and elbow surgery at the Rhön Klinikum Clinic for Hand Surgery over a period of six weeks, participating in patient evaluations and surgeries alongside Prof. Dr. Med. Karl Prommersberger and Prof. Dr. Med. Jörg van Schoonhoven.

2009

PHILADELPHIA, USA

He received advanced surgical training in wrist arthroscopy with Prof. Dr. Lee Osterman at the Thomas Jefferson University Philadelphia Hand Center.

2016

INNSBRUCK ÜNİVERSİTESİ, AUSTRIA

He completed an international shoulder anatomy course.

2017

SOUTH KOREA

He studied advanced shoulder and elbow surgery with Prof. Dr. Yong-Girl Rhee, Prof. Dr. Jae Chul Yoo, and Prof. Dr. Joo Han Oh at major centers in Seoul, Gwangju, and Daegu under the SECEC/ESSSE traveling fellowship.

2017

JAPAN

He participated in surgeries with Prof. Dr. Eiji Itoi, Prof. Dr. Hiroyuki Sugaya, and Prof. Dr. Teruhisa Mihata in Tokyo, Sendai, and Osaka, focusing on rotator cuff tears, recurrent shoulder dislocations, and advanced shoulder reconstructions.

TREATMENT APPROACH

Surgery: For the Right Patient, at the Right Time.

Not every problem involving the hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder requires surgery.

The first step in treatment is to accurately identify the source of the problem and evaluate the patient's age, occupation, activity level, and expectations alongside the characteristics of the condition.

In cases where non-surgical methods prove insufficient or the injury necessitates immediate surgery, the treatment plan may involve open surgery, arthroscopic surgery, reconstructive surgery, or joint replacement surgery, depending on the nature of the condition.

The goal is not merely to treat the damaged structure but to restore movement and function to the highest possible level.

01

Accurate Diagnosis

Beyond the specific site of the complaint, the entire upper extremity and the anatomical structure causing the problem are evaluated together.

02

Personalized Planning

Treatment is planned by taking into account the patient’s age, occupation, daily life, activity level, and expectations.

03

Movement and Function

The goal of the treatment is not merely to reduce pain, but to restore movement and daily functional ability to the upper extremity.

Movement is part of life.

You may contact our clinic for the evaluation of complaints regarding your hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder.
